Environmental Geology Field Camp

Your Educational Adventure Begins Here!
May 11 - June 5, 2009

Learn field methods and integrative problem-solving related to environmental issues in Illinois and beyond. Gain hands-on experience with field equipment and other skills necessary for a career in an environmental field. This summer Northern Illinois University offers you the chance to learn from experts, at sites throughout northern and central Illinois. Student participants can earn four upper-division or graduate semester hours in environmental geoscience field methods. NIU co-sponsors this program with Illinois State University.

Topics will include:

  • Field methods in hydrogeology
  • Field methods in surface water and vabose zone hydrology
  • Environmental geophysics
  • Regional landscape history and
  • Environmental change

Field Trips will include:

  • Drinking and waste water plants
  • Lake Calumet (Superfund site)
  • Quaternary deposits of northern Illinois

Cost:
$2500 includes instruction, transportation between field sites and a partial room and board charges. Additional $300 living allowance will be charged for students needing housing during the DeKalb portion of the field camp. Application and $100 deposit due by April 1, 2008.
